INCOLOY® alloy 800 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy widely used for strength at elevated temperature and resistance to oxidation, carburization and other high-temperature corrosion mechanisms. Typical applications include furnace components and equipment, petrochemical furnace cracker hardware and sheathing for electrical heating elements.
A key design point is that alloy 800 is not normally the choice when optimum long-time creep-rupture properties are required. Special Metals specifically directs those applications toward the related 800H or 800HT grades. For procurement, this makes exact grade identification essential: ‘800 series’ is not sufficient on a drawing or purchase order.

Machining Behavior and Process Control
Инколой 800 work-hardens and carries substantial heat into the cutting zone. It is more forgiving than some very high-strength precipitation-hardened nickel alloys, but it still rewards rigid machines, sharp tooling, adequate feed and good coolant/chip control. Long, flexible components and thin furnace hardware also need stress and fixturing management.
Use strong, vibration-resistant setups for interrupted cuts and long overhangs.
Maintain enough chip thickness to cut below the work-hardened skin rather than polish it.
Avoid excessive spring passes on bores and faces; re-cutting hardened material increases tool wear.
Stage roughing/finishing for rings, long sleeves and thin sections prone to distortion.
Inspect critical mounting and sealing features after the major thermal/stress-producing steps.
Plan burr removal on heater, furnace and process components so thin edges are not rolled or damaged.

The three grades share a common Ni-Fe-Cr base, but 800H and 800HT were developed around higher creep/rupture performance through controlled carbon, grain size and, for 800HT, more restricted chemistry and heat treatment. If the design temperature, pressure code or life calculation depends on creep data, do not downgrade to 800 for convenience. Inspection and Documentation
